Petronas and Murphy Oil go for FEED on Sarawak fLNG
In June, Petronas from Malaysia will qualify only two consortia out of the four pre-qualified groups that have responded to a Call for Tender for a 1.5 million t/y floating liquefied natural gas (fLNG) vessel.
The Sarawak fLNG project is to go for exploration & production at the Rotan and Biris fields developed by Murphy Oil both located offshore Sarawak.
Four pre-qualified groups submitted bids in late April for the front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies on what would be Malaysia’s second FLNG unit. These four groups in competition are the following:
- Technip with Hyundai Heavy Industries
- Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering with Saipem and Japan’s Chiyoda
- Samsung Heavy Industries with Japan’s JGC
- CB&I with Modec, IHI Shipbuilding and Toyo Engineering.
Malaysia Marine Heavy Engineering is not participating in the FEED tender, but the fabricator is understood to be interested in seeking a role as a third party contractor during the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) phase.
In June Petronas will be selected the final bidders for the FEED competition expected to last about 10 months and lead to the award of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
